Sussex County Republicans have endorsed Mendham Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination.
“The Sussex Republican executive committee considers Mayor Glassner the best candidate for our Senate Seat based on her grasp of national level issues of economics, security, the many demanding requirements of being a US Senator, and will lead the way ahead for all Americans, and has the demonstrated reliability and temperament to be steadfast in the current political climate,” said Joseph LaBarbera, the GOP county chairman.
Sussex has office block voting and does not use organization lines, but endorsed candidates may use the party organization slogan.
In the 2020 Republican primary, Sussex County made up 4% of the statewide vote. Sussex ranks 10th out of 21 counties in the state in the number of votes cast in a Republican primary.
Donald Trump for President, Rep. Thomas Kean, Jr. (R-Westfield) for re-election in New Jersey’s 7th district, and Mary Jo Guinchard to take on Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) in the 5th.
Serrano Glassner, a former George W. Bush administration official with close ties to Trump, has already secured party endorsements in Bergen, Morris, Hunterdon, Union, Hudson, and Warren counties.
The frontrunner for the nomination is Curtis Bashaw, a real estate developer and hotelier from Cape May County. He has won party backing in Ocean, Mercer, Middlesex, and Somerset and secured party endorsements in seven South Jersey counties: Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem. Zdan, a former News 12 New Jersey reporter, won the Monmouth GOP convention and a screening committee vote in Passaic.
